Who Are We ?

The Airport Authority Act 2000 (the Act) established a corporate body known as the Airport Authority to manage the Lynden Pindling International Airport, the primary airport in The
Bahamas. The Airport Authority (the “Authority”) came into operation on May 1, 2000 and is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of seven (7) members under the direction of its chairperson.

Through further amendments to the Act over the years, the Authority acquired airports in Abaco and other family islands. The Airport Authority (Amendment) Act, 2014
provided for the transfer of the ownership, operation, and management of the Marsh Harbour Airport on Abaco; and the Airport Authority (Amendment) Act, 2016 provided for the transfer of ownership of specific Family Island airports to the Authority and the establishment of the Family Island Airports Department for the management and operation of those airports. In 2007, the Authority entered into an agreement with the Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) to manage and operate the Lynden Pindling International Airport. Similarly,
the Authority which acquired the Grand Bahama International Airport through the Airport Authority (Amendment) Act, 2021, has turned over its operations and management to Freeport Airport Development Company. The Authority however maintains responsibility for the provision of security and the maintenance of safety and security systems within both
airports.
